Growing Project

The Growing Project is designed to enable people to grow ‘crops from home’ which may not grow easily outside in the British climate, as well meet people from different communities. It uses a poly tunnel to create the conditions for crops from other parts of the world, so they can be grown here.

We plan to build a communal hut so that there is somewhere to shelter in bad weather, or to sit and enjoy a cup of tea and a biscuit. There will be the opportunity for sharing ideas and learning skills of planning, planting, growing and cooking together.

The growing project is open to all communities. It will meet one morning a week initially, currently Tuesday, from 10am to 1pm. The project is based at Plot 80 on the Prince Charles Road Allotment site, which has easy access to transport. A maximum of 20 participants can work on the allotment at a time.  In addition, there will be a facilitator with horticultural skills, plus an assistant and up to 4 volunteers.  Over time, the project can be extended to include more people, on different days and at different times, to suit.

Families will be welcome, so if a family wants a space on which to grow together, that will be fine. Although this might mean a meeting at the weekend, for those interested. There will be scope for competitions for those interested.
